The school year might have started, but summer has far from ended with three “Spectacular September” events for Fridays-N-Duluth and Flicks on the Bricks!   Dine, drink, and unwind with a variety of things to do in Duluth GA during the upcoming cooler evenings.

Food Truck Friday continues, September 4th, with delicious cuisine and a dizzying array of beverage and dining choices starting at 6:00 p.m. The vendors will encircle the Duluth Town Green with savory aromas to entice the crowd! Then join the Highbeams for an encore performance from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on the Festival Center Stage!

Bring your blankets, chairs, coolers, and small tables to enjoy a meal, music, and relax under the stars with that evening’s movie, Guardians of the Galaxy.

Released in August 2014, this PG-13, “Sci-Fi / Action Adventure” brings together an unlikely group of intergalactic criminals to defend earthling, Peter Quinn, played by actor Chris Pratt, against the universal villain, “Ronan the Accuser.”

Based on the Marvel Comics group of Superheroes, this is the tenth installment of the series. Guardians of the Galaxy returns to the 1988 abduction of a young Peter Quinn from his earthly home. He is jettisoned by his capturers to the planet Morag, and after 26 years of confinement, Quinn steals an orb, allowing his escape. A chase ensues to recapture Quinn, which unifies an unlikely band of Quinn defenders, against those seeking the reward bounty for Quinn’s return.

The Fridays-N-Duluth September 11th event combines Food Truck Friday with great music! The timeless tunes of Weekend Getaway Band will have the crowd dancing on the Duluth Town Green starting at 6:00 p.m. These seven talented musicians live by the motto, “It’s Always Summer Somewhere!”

Performing original tunes as the group’s recently released single, “Let’s Shag on the Beach,” combined with classic Motown favorites, their nostalgic music allows the audience to remember a time when life was more carefree. Performing hits originated by Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Tower of Power, and Stevie Wonder, Weekend Getaway Band’s range of 60s’ and 70s’ hits has inspired a loyal fan-base following.

Formed in 2013 after drummer Marcus Vess decided “he was not ready to hang-up his drum sticks,” an intriguing series of coincidences brought these seven men together to join their musical talents into one of Atlanta’s most popular R&B and “beach music” groups.

Along with Vess, other band members include: Allen Cook, who plays piano and keyboards, Felton Dunn on bass guitar, Gil Estes is the trombonist, David Klausman provides trumpet, Gary McKinney plays guitar, and Ollie Patterson is “the sax-man.” Bring your dancing shoes that night since an evening of memorable toe-tapping favorites is guaranteed!

Fridays-N-Duluth for September 18th will offer a trifecta of a meal, music, and a movie. Starting at 6:00 p.m., the Food Trucks deliver a variety of evening cuisine to enjoy in addition to the unique sound of Montana Skies.

This musical duo of Jennifer and Jonathan Adams met while attending the University of Georgia. Upon realizing that his specialty of guitar and hers of cello are an unlikely pairing, the two began composing music which highlighted the blending of both instruments.

This unique musical duet has toured Asia, Canada, Russia and all four corners of the United States since merging their talents in 2004. Montana Skies encompasses such varied genres from Vivaldi to Pink Floyd. Named after Jonathan Adams’ time studying music in Montana while Jennifer was in Italy, the pair has been featured on NPR and the Travel Channel.

Speaking of travel, the Flicks on the Bricks movie starting at dusk September 18th, is The Hundred Foot Journey. Set in the scenic French village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val, the film follows the culinary delights and profound heartbreak of the Kadam Family as established restauranteurs in their native India. After the tragic death of the mother, the widowed father flees the family’s hostile homeland with his children to France.

Via a few missteps, the family locates in the idyllic French town and reignites their passion for food by opening another restaurant.   Across the street from their establishment is the acclaimed and somewhat snobbish fine-dining venue of Madame Mallory.   Played by Helen Mirren as the “haute cuisine” restaurant owner, she first is appalled by the nearby “lowbrow” competition, but later embraces the diversity that has arrived in her village.

The One Hundred Foot Journey was released in 2014 and is rated PG. Including Mirren, the film features Manish Dayal, Charlotte Le Bon, and Om Puri, and was directed by Lasse Hallstrom.
